Soccer Transfers + Random pics Wednesday, July 16, 2008 |
This is not a soccer blog, but as a soccer aficionado, the summer transfer period carries with it a bitter-sweet flavor given the thoughts of what were, and what is to come (in a footballing sense).
For starters, Alexandr Hleb is an amazing player - with a dribbling ability only surpassed by Barca's Messi. He has the guts to take on defenders and an eye for the impossible pass. His only weakness (or strength?) was his unwillingness to shoot in front of goal ... it was agonizing to watch him make that final pass which should have well been a shot. But perhaps, by moving on to Barca, he'll be an asset in a team that appreciates, and thrives on, technical ball possession. For a long time considered "under-rated", Hleb may finally be getting recognition for his genius.
Admit you love me (Hleb and Fabregas)

Being unveiled in Catalunya ...

The obvious story is Ronaldinho - the current poster-boy for the beautiful game - Joga Bonito. His move to AC Milan was expected, and it is gracious of Barca, his former employers, to let him go with such respect. Their website pays great homage to the man.

And in Milan - with fans and paparazzi ...
In addition to this, I thought it would be apt to add a few pictures that 'struck' me in various ways this week ... enjoy~!
